Anyway, it showed me that it is easy for 2 people to follow a similar path independently.Īlthough the hypemachine is a knowingly blatant copy in every respect so you can ignore a lot of that ![]() I did have drawings and notes from the design process showing the people I had borrowed from, even though they were not all obvious in the final design. I would have agreed with that, but I had never seen his work before. The builders response was that I clearly had copied him, but he wasn't bothered because that's what all guitar builders do to a certain extent. I have been publicly accused of copying a unique builder before. The Blackmachine feature set did not appear out of a vacuum. Again, even if Perry had worked on it first, its hard to deny that Novax brought the concept to the market. IIRC he also claimed the trademark on "multiscale" when Novax would sell a licence for the use of "fanned fret", but I seem to remember he also helped debunk the Novax patent which stated that if you extended the frets below the neck they would eventually meet at a single point. . There is also no denying BM simply cannot provide this style of guitar to everyone who wants one. but there is no denying that the specific combination of features was made popular by BM. Its a simple fact that many will have used some of the "blackmachine" features first, and some will have done strikingly similar models. ![]() ![]() He isn't the only one now making BM style guitars who claims to have done it long before BM ever did. Let me start by saying I think Perry is one of the good guys.
